Legend Pilot Dies
The famous chief pilot was appointed Zambia Airways Managing Director in September 1986 at the glorious height of the airline.
The airline was flying local routes to; Lusaka-Kasabo Bay, Lusaka-Mfuwe, Livingstone , Ndola and Kitwe.
Regional Routes; Lilongwe, Dar-es-Salaam, Entembe, Johannesburg and Mauritius.
International routes included; London, Rome, Bombay, Frankfurt and NewYork!
At the advent of the new government in 1991, Mulundika was fired and replaced by Luke Mbewe, who was also later replaced by Peter Kaoma and George Lewis before the airline was liquidated in 1994!
Announcing the demise of Captain Godfrey Mulundika (right) who passed away yesterday.
Captain Mulundika was once Chief Pilot at Zambia Airways.
He led the DC 10 acquisition project and eventually became the airline Managing Director.
In later life he fell on hard times and was even arrested and appeared before a Lusaka magistrate’s court charged with obtaining K150 million by false pretences.
Mulundika was jointly charged with a former Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZANACO) supervisor Joseph Mundubi on four counts of obtaining money by false pretences with intent to defraud the bank.
The passing of Mulundika has come at a time when government is trying to revive a national carrier to the scale of Zambia Airways
