TWO women of Lusaka’s Ng’ombe Compound have appeared in court for allegedly killing 18-year-old Lydia Banda.

Mafunase Banda, 34 mother of the deceased, is jointly charged with Lydia’s sister Chaiwe, 29 with murder contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

The allegation is that Mafunase and Chaiwe on December 2, jointly and whilst acting together, murdered Lydia.

When the matter came up for explanation of the charge last Friday before principal resident magistrate Kenneth Mulife, the accused persons said they understood the charge.

Police arrested Mafunase and Chaiwe on December 3 and charged them with murder.

And sources disclosed that the duo beat up Lydia to death after they discovered that she was pregnant.

It is alleged that Lydia’s mother and her sister severely beat up the deceased in the presence of her boyfriend.

Further, sources revealed that Lydia was pronounced dead on arrival at Levy Mwanawasa Hospital in Lusaka.

The matter was adjourned to January 12 for mention as instructions in the matter are being awaited.
