A NAKONDE police officer Inspector Chishimba Joseph Mwango has died of injuries sustained when he was shot in the lower abdomen while on duty by criminals.
Inspector Chishimba aged 48 year old of Protective Unit was shot in the lower abdomen by criminals on 26th December, 2016 in Nakonde and was later admitted in Kasama General Hospital.
Police Public Relations Officer Esther Mwaata Katongo has confirmed to Mwebantu that Inspector Chishimba died in the early hours of yesterday, 4th January, 2017 around 02:00 hours.
It is reported that Inspector Chishimba was on the fateful day conducting duties at ZAMPOST in Nakonde where he was shot at after he followed up a report of Armed Robbers at Camp D bar at 02:00 hours.
“After spotting the bandits, his firearm jammed hence exposing him to criminals who fired at him and shot him in the abdomen,” Katongo has explained.
She says two of the three criminals connected to the shooting were later apprehended in Tunduma in Tanzania.
“Two male suspects in the shooting identified as Rashid Stevens aged 33, a peasant farmer in Chiyanga Village on the Zambian side and Given Mwamulima aged 20, a security guard in Tanzania both Tanzanian Nationals have been apprehended in Tunduma, Tanzania by Tanzanian Police after they were found with empty fire arm cartridges,” Katongo has disclosed.
“During interrogation’s, the suspects disclosed that they were responsible for the Robbery and shooting of a Police Officer in Zambia and a homemade fire arm was later recovered underneath the bed at the house of Rashid Stevens in Chiyanga Village in the Republic of Zambia by a combined team of ZAMBIA Police and Tanzania Police officers.”
Katongo says the suspects are still detained at Tunduma Police in Tanzania and will be transported to Zambia soon.
