FIVE UPND cadres have sued the State demanding K1,700,000 each as compensation for false imprisonment and malicious prosecution.

In a statement of claim filed in the Lusaka High Court, Aaron Sililo, suing as administrator for the late Aaron Sililo, Remmy Mukoba, Joseph Muzonda, Patrick Ntalasha, and Newton Chisutu have cited Attorney General Likando Kalaluka in this matter.

The plaintiffs were arrested in 2012 and prosecuted for idle and disorderly conduct but were later acquitted.

They explained that on June 6, 2012, they joined a demonstration on the alleged interference of the Judiciary by the executive after notifying the police in accordance with the public order Act.

They stated that the police stopped their demonstration, attacked them before apprehending them.

The plaintiffs stated that they were detained at Lusaka Central Police Station for several days.
