Mtonga

By Enoch Lusoke

The Disability Rights Watch has commended the ruling patriotic front for adopting Thomas Mtonga, a visually impaired man as its candidate for Chasefu constituency in the forthcoming august general elections.

Mr. Mtonga, a lecturer at the University of Zambia has been adopted as the ruling party’s parliamentary candidate for Chasefu constituency in Eastern Province.

Disability Rights Watch Program Coordinator, Bruce Chooma says the adoption of Mr. Mtonga is a victory for persons living with disabilities, and has commended the PF for practicing politics of inclusiveness by including persons with disabilities in the governance of the country.

Mr. Chooma notes that for many years, political parties have to a larger extent, ignored persons with disabilities during adoption processes, despite their ability and willingness to participate in governance issues and is now calling on other political parties to emulate the PF by adopting persons with disabilities.
