Zambian music artist General Kanene is on the wanted list in Malawi for failing to show up at a concert after pocketing K1 million Malawian Kwacha about K17,000 Zambian Kwacha.

Zambian Watch, has been told that General Kanene, was supposed to perform at Squirrels Park last weekend in Mzuzu area but failed to show up at the eleventh hour.

The show was dubbed Malawi “na” Zambia and Kanene was supposed to be the headline act.

Meanwhile, Squirrels Park Manager Director Tobias Keliophas in a statement seen by Zambian Watch, said Kanene was paid through Western Union but refused to go to Malawi for fear of being arrested in that country.

“We were requested to send transport through Western Union and that was done immediately. When Kent [Organised Family] went to pick him up, General Kanene refused to come out of the house”

“When we talked his manager, he told us that Kanene couldn’t come to Malawi because he was afraid of being arrested. He didn’t disclose the reason,” he said.

Keliophas said Kanene’s no-show has cost him over K1 million as he also spent on other services such as advertising, equipment and payments for the other artists.

“Music lovers wanted to see General Kanene as the main act, so we decided to cancel the show altogether rather than apologising on stage about his absence which could have been unprofessional and disrespectful,” he said.
