SICHINGA FILES-IN AS INDEPENDENT IN MAFINGA, ENDORSES HH…says he’s motivated by changing public institutions like Constitutional Court

By Daily Revelation Correspondent

Former commerce minister Bob Sichinga has filed nominations as independent candidate in Mafinga constituency, saying he wants to contribute towards changing public institutions like the constitutional court to work for the interests of the masses.

And Zambia’s former permanent representative to the United Nations Dr Kasese Botha has filed to stand as an independent in Mpika-Central after she was overlooked on the PF adoptions.

Sichinga told Daily Revelation, that he is supporting the opposition UPND to win the presidency, and hoping the opposition will earn a super majority in Parliament in order to right the many things he said had gone wrong under President Edgar Lungu’s administration.

He said even if President Lungu managed to run for a third term, it was not over as he and the courts will have to account for the “coup”, when it was clearly stated that he should not run for another term having already held office twice.

Sichinga said it pained him to see the hardships people in his former constituency were facing, just like the rest of the country, and that he was seeking another term to help improve their welfare.

Sichinga was first elected in Mafinga, then Isoka East, as an independent in 1996 and he won the Kafue seat in 2001 on the UPND ticket, but did seek not seek another parliamentary run thereafter until now.

“The whole governance system has to be changed from this adulterous. We must rebuilt the civil service, public service that it serves the whole nation. They have invited all the citizens to register for cash transfer, where have they been? Why are they taking Emerine Kabanshi to court? I will make sure they do not see the vote here (in Mafinga),” Sichinga said, adding that he had decided to support the candidature of Hakainde Hichilema because as far as he was concerned there were only two competitors in the 2021 elections. “If you look at the Constitutional Court they are talking about a provision in the constitution, but how do you hear a case that hasn’t even been brought up? This is not worth being called a Constitutional Court, it is a kangaroo court.” -Daily Revelation
