Chainama Hills Hospital in Lusaka has confirmed having treated a transgender for a mild mental problem after stripping naked in public on Monday.
Hospital Public Relations Manager George Tafuna says the patient was brought in by parents after stripping naked on Great East Road, in protest of alleged rejection by family and society because of being transgender.
Kanyanta Kakana 24, on Monday circulated a video protesting against discrimination by society.
Kakana who is using a different name on Instagram to communicate to the public has told psychiatrists at Chainama hospital that she is a woman and must be accepted and respected.
The hospital has discharged Kakana and psychiatrists will continue conducting further tests.
