Some residents of Lusaka’s Chawama Township have condemned police for blocking UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema from donating a generator to Chawama Level 1 Hospital.

Hordes of policemen in riot gear on Sunday patrolled the streets of Chawama after word went round that the opposition leader who was due to visit the area to donate a generator to Chawama Level 1 Hospital to mitigate the long hours of power blackouts.

Some residents talked to by Hot FM News today described the action by the police as unacceptable as it deprives the people of a good service especially that the health facility has no gen set amidst the increased hours of load shedding.

Recently, government rejected Hichilema’s gen set donation, with government spokesperson Dora Siliya telling the opposition leader to “take the gen set to his people in Bweengwa”.
