The prices of cooking oil have drastically reduced from as high as K275 in some places to as low as K189. This is as a result of the radical measures that President Edgar Lungu and his Government took by suspending all import duties and value added tax (VAT) on imported crude edible oil, which is the main raw material in the manufacturing of local cooking oil.
Further, Government allowed the importation of about 9000mt of cooking oil to reduce the deficit.
Two-thirds of the cooking oil consumed in Zambia is produced from imported crude edible oil and the prices of of crude edible oils at the international market has an impact on the price of cooking oil here in Zambia.
