DEMOLISH ALICK NKHATA BRIDGE INSISTS EIZ

The Engineering Institute of Zambia-EIZ-has maintained that Lusaka’s Alick Nkhata Road fly over bridge must be demolished as the bridge does not meet recommended specifications.

This is despite some adjustments that the contractor did on the bridge following concerns over the safety of the infrastructure.

EIZ Chief Executive Officer Eng. Linus Chanda says conclusive reports on the bridge have been submitted to both the Ministries of Local Government and Transport and Communications for the next course of action.

He has clarified that his institutions’ mandate is to ensure that it offers advice to government construction projects and that the duty of enforcement is left to other respective departments.

Eng. Chanda adds that the process of taking disciplinary action against the engineers behind the said bridge has commenced and details of the outcome will be availed in due course.
