False audio recording endangers cop’s life

A LUSAKA-based police officer is living in fear for his life after an audio recording falsely accusing him of being on the run after swindling job seekers.

The audio recording with officer’s photo attached to it alleges that the cop went on the run from authorities after he was discovered to be the leader of a group of criminals using police uniforms to solicit bribes from the public in exchange for government jobs and that the group had also committed murders.

The male voice in the audio urged listeners to widely circulate the audio to help the cop’s capture.

But Police are shocked at the audio saying at no time did the officer go on the run and was reporting for duty normally.

Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale said the photo of the officer being circulated was an old one.

Sources close to the officer whose name has been withheld say, he is recieving numerous calls from people threatening his life as a result the false information.

“The officer is reporting for duties just like others and is not at large as alleged in the audio,” Mwale said in a statement.

Mwale said Police had no report against the officer regarding the allegations.

“Investigations to bring to book the person/people behind the false publication have been instituted,” said Mwale.
