One of the 59 people who were arrested on Monday following riots in Kitwe’s Chamboli Township has died.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga who confirmed the development to Phoenix News says Teddy Meleki aged 64, of Chamboli died of high blood pressure.

Mrs. Katanga says Mr. Meleki a retiree, of House no. 5, 29th street, Chamboli Township, was rushed to ndeke clinic where he was referred to Kitwe Teaching Hospital where he died yesterday.

She says the deceased body is lying in the Kitwe teaching hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

And son to the deceased is urging government to ensure justice prevails over the death of his father and police apply fairness and professionalism in their execution of duty.

Teddy Chipako Junior says it is unfortunate that police over use their powers on innocent people whenever handling difficult situations in communities

And Wusakile Member of Parliament Pavyuma Kalobo is disappointed at the police’s excessive use of force.
