Liu Xiaobo once remarked “hatred is corrosive of a person’s wisdom and conscience; the mentality of enmity can poison a nation’s spirit, instigate brutal life and death struggles, destroy society’s tolerance and humanity, and block a nation’s progress to freedom and democracy”
Again, Mother Angelica tells us that when we begin to build walls of prejudice, hatred, pride and self-indulgence around ourselves, we are more surely imprisoned than any prisoner behind concrete walls and iron bars.
This hatred is the exact opposite of love. The bible teaches of the coming of Jesus on earth, as a consequence of God’s love for mankind. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life However, religious one is, without love one is destined to crush.” John 3 v 16.
Hatred is a consequential by-product of envy.
It is has become common in the political arena for individuals to fight others, based on pure hate and bigotry. Politics, from its fundamental intent is not a channel for self-enrichment, self-fulfillment and must not be taken as a means to self-prosperity. Those whose intent has always been to offer service to the people, and fulfill the very fundamental intent of politics are fought with vigor, cruelty and hatred by those whose perception and consideration of politics is a channel to self-fulfillment.
Some people are willing to throw away the towel of goodwill purely to plough seeds of hatred against comrades within the same political camps. They do so not because they aspire to fulfill the fundamental intent of politics in anyway but because they aspire to be in the close proximity of political power to use it as a means to self-fulfillment. In the process of this hatred churned out, lies, propaganda and concoctions are manufactured, spread and sustained to achieve their predetermined objective of self-prosperity.
When our founding father late Michael Chilufya Sata (MHSRIP) passed away, those who saw an opportunity to self-fulfillment using the Presidency cast seeds of hatred against His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu. Sata left the mantle of power with President Lungu, but despite this some people did not accept the fact that the simple and humble man who is identifiable among the ordinary people was the anointed person to inherit the budge to be a Republican President.
President Lungu is one of the most fought people, both from within the party Patriotic Front (PF) and from external antagonists. Despite this, he thrived and won the elections both from within PF and against all the opposition parties that ganged up against him. President Lungu continues to outlive the fights that are directed to him.
The ordeal of President Lungu’s ascendance to power teaches us a very big lesson that, however big hatred is meted out against others even if it emanate from multitude among us, if God be for us, no one can be against us so as to succeed in bringing us down.
Hate knows no victory. Hate is cruelty. Hate emanates from envy. Hate is dirty.
President Lungu was chosen by Sata to be his successor because the late believed in him, and his commitment to service. President Sata chose his own people to work with, not because others who were not appointed are less important but because there are only limited positions and limited people that he could work with, and not everyone can occupy the offices appointed by the President.
Equally, President Edgar Lungu has his own people to work with in various positions across the board, in cabinet, local and foreign service and parastatals as well as the party functionaries. This does not mean those who are not appointed into anything are less important. Those of us who are outside any of the functionaries of government but are party members and supporters need not exert hate on those who are appointed to help President Lungu achieve his vision for Zambia.
Personally it hurts me that certain people do all sorts of things to scheme traps against the Ministers appointed by President Lungu, yet claim that they love the party PF and want it to succeed. But obviously, this can’t be true and possible. Nothing good comes from hate and these fights targeted at certain appointees of the President. When we focus on bringing each other down merely because we feel we are the ones who should have been appointed this and that, the seed of disunity is sowed and what is reaped from such cannot be of any value and good to the party. In a way, those who fight the appointees of President Lungu are fighting the appointing authority and consequently are fighting his aspirations to serve the people of Zambia.
President Lungu has a mandate, has a vision and has aspirations. To achieve all this, he has his preferences to work with and when he sees fit and using his wisdom, the President changes ‘players’ to help him achieve his fundamental objectives. Those who meet in dark corners to cast hate, lies, propaganda against those appointed by President Lungu do not mean anything good for the party and the people of Zambia in whole.
I need not say their identities here today and I need not mention the people being ruthlessly and cruelly fought either but let me hasten to state in conclusion that the traps you set against others will soon catch you. We know them but we will leave it to divine authority to deal with those that are scheming for President Lungu to fail, by fighting his appointees. God has his own way of fighting for his children, and those whose desires are to serve humankind.
