FDD president Edith Nawakwi

Former Minister of Finance and now opposition leader Edith Nawakwi says she loves Agriculture.

Nawakwi who heads an opposition FDD says she now works in the farm and understands the benefits.

Here is what she has written:

…I work at the farm and I understand it’s benefits.

This country is blessed by fertile soils. We have more people living in rural areas and partly or fully depend on some form of agriculture. ZAMBIA is beyond LUSAKA.

Improving the quality of life and economic well-being of people living in rural areas is a must. I am here to remind everyone that our farmers amid their fertile fields, only with substantial support can they succeed in their farming endeavors.

Agricultural and rural development is the best way to create jobs and improve livelihoods for most of our small scale farmers, while producing food and raw materials for the urban economy.

We need to give our people the opportunity to fight hunger and work to combat challenges in population growth and climate change. The agricultural sector plays a strategic role in the process of economic development of a country.
