I WILL contest for the President of Zambia in the 2021 elections without forming alliances because political alliances have failed in Zambia as everyone wants to be President, says Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) president, Nevers Mumba.

And Dr Mumba said he was of strong conviction that the MMD would bounce back and form government next year.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday, Dr Mumba said his party had been in alliances before but failed because of selfish motives by some political leaders.

“I wish to announce that I shall stand for the Presidency of Zambia in 2021, and I wish to ask you Zambians trust me, I shall not disappoint you.

“We have been in alliances before and these alliances have failed because everyone wants to be President. We must focus on creating an alliance with the people,” Dr Mumba said.

He said MMD was ready to fight with young people to win power rather than forming alliances because he believed that an alliance would work only if it came from the people of Zambia.

Dr Mumba said failure by the PF to deliver most of its campaign promises will work to the advantage of MMD in 2021.

Dr Mumba has alleged that the ruling Patriotic Front government had nothing to offer.

“PF has shown you what they have got. Nothing more they will offer in the next 12 months,” he said.
