Litunga

By Nawa Njekwa

Then who is Imikendu Nabiwa?
Imikendu Nabiwa is a former Imbwae.

So, who really is an Imbwae and what is their role in Barotseland?
An Imbwae simply put, is a king maker.

Imbwae does not choose who should be the Litunga but plays a critical role in the enthroning process. Once the Ngambela and Makoshi (Electoral College) finalises with names for a possible Litunga, the Induna Imbwae advises and guides who should be selected as the Litunga.

After a prince has been selected to be the Litunga, this is where the lengthy installation process begins by the Imbwae. We cannot overemphasize the role of the Imbwae at this stage.

Why has Imikendu Nabiwa and others dragged the Litunga Lubosi Imwiko II to the Zambian courts?
They cite gross violation of the traditional and norms of the Litungaship by Litunga Lubosi Imwiko II.

Should we support Lubosi Imwiko II or the plaintiff Imikendu Nabiwa and others?

Personally I would throw all my weight on the plaintiff to squeeze out Lubosi Imwiko II.

Just why not support Lubosi Imwiko II who happens to be Litunga, ngocana?

There’s something not right with the current Litunga Lubosi Imwiko II. We have tried to be with him but he has constantly kept neglecting us – we the people of Barotseland!

It’s no longer a bedroom issue that the people of Barotseland desperately want out of Zambia. Unfortunately, Litunga Lubosi Imwiko II and his BRE seem comfortable with the status quo of so called Western Province.

His actions have been loud and clear to most of us.
For example, he has stayed mute for years on the illegal incarceration of Afumba Mombotwa and colleagues. This may only mean that he has a hand in it together with his BRE.

BNC 2012 resolutions is another thing Litunga Lubosi Imwiko II and his BRE are shy to address.

Zambia has been raping the institution of the Litunga through their useless constitutional amendments but Lubosi Imwiko II and his BRE are still mute forgetting that one day they will leave that noble position for another one who will only find bones without any single flesh to chew.

CONCLUSION:

As much as I hate it that the case is tried in Zambian courts, this Litunga deserves such treatment because he is simply becoming irrelevant to the people of Barotseland.
