The Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT) is very upset with the Ministry of General Education Permanent Secretary Jobbiks Kalumba for banning holiday tuitions and weekend lessons.

ZNUT Public Relations Manager Joe Kasaka says tuitions should not be abolished as they help learners catch up with school work. He said his union is not happy with the decision made and appealed the Permanent Secretary to rescind it.

And members of the public have appealed to the Ministry of General Education to reconsider the decision as it will impact negatively on slow learners who rely on tuitions to catch-up with school work.

On Friday the Ministry of General Education abolished weekend and holiday tuitions.

According to the ministry, the circular of 2013 which permitted tuitions was being abused by teachers to commercialise the tuitions through remedial lessons, therefore they have now been completely abolished.
