THE Patriotic Front in Lusaka says Senior Chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo ll of Chongwe is being used by the UPND to malign it.

On Saturday, Nkomeshya demanded an apology from the ruling party saying about 600 of its cadres stormed her traditional ceremony – Chakwela Makumbi – and looted food and caused damage to property and frightened attendees on October 26.

She also said she would send the PF the bill of the damage and the looted food to pay.

She said if the government wanted to kill her, there was no need to send 600 cadres because a single bullet was enough to end her life.

She complained that the PF was fighting her “right, left and centre.”

About 200 of her headmen also protested what they said was PF harassment and disrespect of the chiefdom.

But Lusaka Province PF secretary Kennedy Kamba responded saying the party was aware that Nkomeshya was not with the party politically.

“There was nothing like that, our party cadres went to celebrate Chakwela Makumbi traditional ceremony and there were a lot of UPND cadres at the same ceremony. It is very unfortunate that she can single out one political party against all the political parties who attended the function,” he said.

Kamba said he had enquired and investigated using party and government officials in Chongwe and found that no PF cadre caused any disturbance at the Chakwela Makumbi traditional ceremony.

“What is there is that ‘amai’ wants to take a political stance. But what she should know is that the PF government has delivered in Lusaka Province,” he said.

“The chieftainess shouldn’t allow herself to be used by the opposition UPND. I think for us Chieftainess Nkomeshya is our chief and we have come a long way and we know that politically she’s not with us. Politically she is with the UPND because of Sylvia Masebo. Who doesn’t’ know that wherever Sylvia Masebo goes, that is where she also goes?” Kamba said.

“I can just urge the chieftainess not be used by the politicians. Chieftaness Nkomesha should be a mother to all political leaders in Lusaka Province.”

Kamba said the PF would not remain quiet while Nkomeshya spoke against it and President Lungu.
“Ours is to advise her to maintain her lane and make sure that she provides leadership beyond political inclinations,” he said.

He said if there was anything that Nkomeshya was not happy about, the doors to the President, the PF, the Lusaka minister and the district commissioner were open instead of “rushing to the media”.

“But rushing to the media and trying to deceive the Zambian people that this party doesn’t mean well, that is political. And us as politicians we can’t keep quiet because as far as we are concerned, we have given her three universities, a milling plant, a specialised hospital, we have refurbished the Lusaka International Airport, the township roads, those are the issues which she should also talk about and all these projects are coming up with employment for the youths of Chongwe,” he said.

“She is not mentioning that, all she is saying ‘Lungu wants to kill me’; honestly speaking, is that the language we should expect to come from the her royal highness Chieftainess Nkomeshya? Let her be above politics, she is our mother and we are looking up to her to offer guidance and advice to the national leaders of this country. Let her not take the stance of chief Mukuni of the Toka-Leya people in Livingstone,” added Kamba.
