First year students at the University of Zambia have been accused of being thieves and prostitutes by their senior counterparts and union leaders.
This follows the abolishment of meal allowances for the first year students.
According to UNZASU President Warren Hamusunga, laptop thefts have increased at the institution while inappropriate relationships between students and lecturers are also a source of concern.
Mr. Hamusunga attributes the developments to first year students who are struggling financially due to lack of stipends.
The first year students who have admitted their hardships say they feel left out as they have to find other means of sustaining themselves while their colleagues receive meal allowances.
One of the students Songiso Mundia has since appealed to government to restore meal allowances.
