Hon Cornelius Mweetwa

UPND says it is disappointed that President Edgar Lungu used his two days working visit to Southern Province to practice tribal politics.

During a Press Briefing, Monday morning, party Deputy Spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa said the head of state could have used his opportunity with traditional leaders to assure them of continued unity and peace.

Mweetwa was reacting to President Lungu’s statement that Tonga bulls should not just go about boasting that they are rich, but challenged them to improve the welfare of their traditional leaders.

He said President Lungu should have condemned the recent tribal sentiments from senior Patriotic Front, (PF) officials, including those uttered during the Chilubi by-elections a few months ago.

Mweetwq observes that the country has bigger things to worry about and mitigating them should be government’s focus as opposed to targeting individual citizens.

And Mweetwa has wondered why inmates should be allowed to vote if they cannot listen to the opposition’s policies through campaigns.

He says Lungu should not have entertained Zambia Correctional Services Commissioner General, Dr. Chisela Chileshe to stand on the podium to utter political statements.

He says Chileshe is a civil servant who should not engage in politics and setting a bad example to his juniors.
