MINISTER DESCRIBES HUNGER SITUATION AS DISASTER
Minister in the office of the Vice President Olipa Banda was today at pains to explain why government is reluctant to declare the hunger situation a National Disaster when as many as 58 districts across the country are hunger stricken.
Opposition members of Parliament took turns asking the Minister about how the hunger situation is being mitigated.
This was after the Minister delivered a statement in which she disclosed that more than two million Zambians are affected by hunger.
Chimwemwe Member of Parliament Elias Mwila asked the Minister on what criteria would be used to declare the hunger a disaster.
In response, the Minister said government has enough food stock to manage the hunger disaster.
Rising on a point of order, Monze Central Member of Parliament Jack Mwiimbu asked minister to explain how government was adequately responding to the national hunger disaster.
