The body of the late national hero and former President Robert Mugabe arrived at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International airport in Harare on Wednesday.
Scores of people from all walks of life including President Emmerson Mnangagwa thronged to the airport to welcome his body.
The late former President’s body was accompanied back home from Singapore by his wife Grace and close family members including a government delegation led by Vice President Kembo Mohadi.
Speaking upon arrival of the veteran leader’s body President Mnangagwa appealed to Zimbabweans to show love to the late leader.
“We are aggrieved and we say our sincere condolences to the former First Lady Grace Mugabe and her children. Our hero is no more. On the day we shall lay him to rest on Sunday I appeal to you Zimbabweans to show your love to our great leader who has left us” he said
The body was later taken to One Commando where it will lie in state before being taken to the Mugabe residence ‘the blue roof’.
Details remain unclear as to where he will be buried with the Government saying they await to hear from the family.
The late former President breathed his last in Singapore on September 6, he was 95.
