President Peter Mutharika has applied to the Constitutional Court to dismiss petitions submitted by UTM president Saulos Chilima and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera.
According to court documents filed at the Lilongwe District Registry Mutharika argues that Chilima’s Elections Petition be removed for being “irregular, incompetent and incurably defective.”
Similarly, Mutharika argues that Chakwera’s Election Petition also be struck out for “being irregular, incompetent, embarrassing and incurably defective.”
Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court is expected to hear the arguments on Friday, June 14, 2019, during a scheduling conference in the Judges Chamber at the High Court Lilongwe District Registry.
Both Chilima and Chakwera are challenging the outcome of the May 21 elections which they argue had a lot of irregularities.
