HH takes swipe at Kambwili as alliance crumbles.
United Party for National Development President Hakainde Hichilema says his party does not need allies to win the Katuba by election. Speaking in an interview with Byta FM yesterday, Mr Hichilema also called on National Democratic Congress NDC leader Chishimba Kambwili to tone down and be grateful to UPND for aiding him with votes in the roan constituency by election earlier this year.
Mr Hichilema says his party will go for an outright win in Katuba and does not require the help an alliance which is busy feeding off UPND money and logistics. “We have always done it as UPND. what will stop us now? we don’t need Tembo or Kambwili. Some of these small parties are just there to eat from us. UPND is not a charity organization.” retorted Mr Hichilema.
Mr Kambwili has expressed disappointment with Mr Hichilema after UPND announced it will field a candidate in the upcoming lubwa ward by election in Kitwe. The two had a mutual understanding of supporting each other in areas where either of them had stronger political representation.
However, Mr Hichilema has u-turned and decided to walk it alone. A move which has left Mr. Kambwili with a tone of desperation as reality dawns on NDC. This will really test the political mettle of our party now that we can’t rely on upnd votes, said Mr Kambwili.
