Ndola woman fakes abduction, gets arrested

A 26-YEAR-OLD woman of Ndola has been arrested for allegedly faking her abduction. Hilda Gonga, of Hilcrest Township, has been charged with giving false information to a public officer.

According to Copperbelt Province Commissioner of Police Elias Chushi, Gonga allegedly faked her abduction due to financial difficulties she is facing.

Last week, it was reported that Gonga had been captured in unclear circumstances and
that the abductors demanded K50,000 from the husband.

Last Friday around 08:00 hours, at Mickey Mouse School near Hillcrest Tennis Club in
Ndola, Gonga escorted her child to a named school.

While returning home, she was reportedly abducted by unknown people, and her husband, Miles Kabaila, 32, received a text message from an anonymous person
instructing him to pay K50,000 to have his wife released.

But Mr Chushi said investigations into the matter established that Gonga was
never abducted as claimed.

“We received information that she was abducted, so police started trailing the number used to send the message and we discovered that it was herself who sent the message,” he said
