The Patriotic Front Government has awarded civil servants a pay raise of K200 as a salary increament.
What this translates in simple terms is that, If a civil servants gets K5,000. You can calculate: 5,000 × 4 = K20,000 ÷ 100 =K 200.
Government has just concluded and signed the 2019 negotiations for improved salaries and conditions of service for Public service workers with the Civil Servants and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CSAWUZ) .
And Public Service Management Division, Permanent Secretary Boniface Chimbwali says government is committed to ensuring that all workers are remunerated well enough to enable them meet their basic needs.
Speaking after the signing ceremony at cabinet office in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Chimbwali said all improvements in salaries and conditions of service in the public service are made within the framework provided in the strategy.
Mr Chimbwali commended the public service unions for the support rendered to government in the implementation of government policy on remuneration.
“The four percent increment to the salaries will come into effect in July, 2019, up to July 2020”, he clarified.
“Government is committed to improving the welfare of the public service employees through the implementation of public service Micro Service and introduction of group funeral assistance scheme”, he said.
He further said government is also working on the implementation of the social health insurance scheme and the social protection reforms.
Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of other unions, Zambia Union of Government and Allied Workers (UG) President Muyaywa Kabisa, said he is happy that the negotiations have finally been concluded.
Mr Kabisa said civil service workers are faced with a number of challenges that impact negatively on their performance at work, adding that trade unions should endeavor to put in place deliberate programmes that would make life of workers bearable.
