The Lusaka Magistrates court has acquitted Economic and Equity Party leader Chilufya Tayali on charges of contempt of court and defamation.

This is after the plaintiff Edward Sichali decided to withdraw the matter after the two agreed to reconcile.

In this matter, Tayali was facing seven counts of contempt of court and defamation.

He had accused Sichali of being sponsored by UPND President Hakainde Hichilema to hold a protest at the University of Zambia which protest saw the death of UNZA student Vespers Shimuzhila last year.

Speaking after the acquittal, Tayali promised to take a different approach in politics.
