*POLICE WARN AND CAUTION THE “CATAPULT FAN”.*
(For Immediate Release)
Nkana Supporters National Executive Committee
Following numerous social media reports portraying an alleged Nkana fan aiming catapults at an unknown object during the violence that characterized the FAZ Super league week 4 match between Forest Rangers Fc and Nkana Football club, the Nkana Football Supporters Executive Committee (EXCO) summoned the alleged ‘CATAPULT FAN’ to appear before it.
However, the named fan was not available to make an appearance as he was reportedly on his way to Kitwe Central Police Station so as to hand himself over to police following a story published in the Times of Zambia of 02/10/2019 where the Copperbelt Deputy Police Commissioner Mr. Wamunyima Wamunyima is quoted as having said that “the police would pounce on him after facts were gathered”.
At the police station, the Officer In Charge counseled the fan before handing him over to the CID Department where a warn and caution statement was subsequently recorded from him. The fan has since expressed deep remorse over his actions and indicated that, it was not his intention to harm anyone as the catapult was just carried for fun and banter and at no time was it intended to be used to scare nor harm anyone. He further narrated that, the image in circulation, which has gone viral, was taken before the game started.
The named fan has since been released pending further investigations into the matter with the catapult being surrendered to police.
The Supporters Exco therefore wishes to inform the soccer fraternity and the general public that, it will not comment further on this issue as it is now under police scrutiny.
The Supporter’s Exco however wishes to reassure members of the public and all soccer lovers of its commitment to ensuring that Nkana Fans exhibits high levels of discipline and urges its fans to exercise tolerance even under extreme provocation. Further the Supporters Exco would like to encourage Nkana Supporters to come in large numbers and support the team as it takes on Kansanshi Dynamos in the FAZ Super League week five fixture this coming Saturday at Nkana Stadium.
