The political parties under the Zambia Centre for Inter Party Dialogue have narrowed their differences and agreed on the church mother bodies chairing the contentious dialogue process.

At the close of the two day workshop for party secretary generals in Siavonga, the political parties have also firmed up on the thematic areas of dialogue.

The contentious dialogue process is envisaged to bring the UPND’s Hakainde Hichilema and President Edgar Lungu to the table.

Below is the statement issued by ZCID Board Chairperson at the conclusion of a two day meeting for National Secretaries and General Secretaries held at Karina Inn in Siavonga.

We the under signed National Secretaries and Secretary Generals representing various political parties and the people of Zambia confirm our commitment to the National Dialogue Process. We have fully deliberated on the matters associated with the national dialogue and have come to the following common agreement:

1. We agree that the process shall be facilitated by ZCID and chaired by Church Mother Bodies;

2. We agree that the broad thematic areas to be considered at the Summit of Presidents shall include the following:
• Constitutional and Institutional Reforms
• Separation of Powers and Judicial Independence
• Tolerance, Freedom of Assembly and Civility in Politics
• Electoral Reforms

3. We further agree to form a technical committee comprising of legal representatives from political parties and other identified stakeholders that shall look into key issues;

4. We agree to mandate ZCID to immediately meet with the Church to set the program for the dialogue process;

5. We have thus proposed a draft agenda and roadmap for the dialogue process;

6. We wholeheartedly undertake to keep each other engaged in continued consultation to achieve our common objectives; and
7. We reaffirm our commitment to the dialogue process in the interest of all Zambians.

    • Yes indeed – to go gracefully! This is just a face saving measure for ZCID to let the Church lead the process as demanded by Zambians. There was no need of going to Siavonga first when they knew that no one has confidence in the ZCID except Lungu and his mad people in PF!
      Just ZWaaaa ZCID – we have important issues for the Church to lead!

  1. If the dialogue is being done on behalf of all Zambians as you claim, then their is one important agenda item which is missing and that is 8. All cases of suspected fraud or corrupt morals of good governance should thoroughly be investigated by independent investigative body and culprits be brought to account for their deeds. This is important because you can’t continue holding dialogue in a dirty environment. The same filthy will not clean all that affects the required civilized way of politicking. In the absence of this article, rest be assured that you are holding another tea Party. Where have you seen criminals and innocent people dialogue (over what) over rigging, theft or public order act? Already political violence is an issue of concern and nobody accepts perpetration of the same.Biased policing by Zambia Police is evident, how can this be addressed if not by giving Parliament powers to appoint a Professional Inspector General. You want to start eating with your hands still covered by dirt, what dialogue can be there until you say all should wash their hands is when we can start eating otherwise will suffer from cholera because it won’t be eradicated. Dialogue should pinpoint all issues that affect smooth implementation of set standards. Without set standards what do you dialogue.

  2. What is of Paramount is to set standards and culprits be disqualified from contesting for elections, that is how dialogue can gain credibility. Reshuffle all bad eggs out of the system and then discuss thereafter.
