RWANDA SEEKS AUDIENCE WITH ZAMBIAN GOVT OVER DORA SILIYA’S CARELESS TWEET
Rwandese ambassador to Zambia has demanded for a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister of Zambia, Joe Malanji following a tweet by the Zambian information Minister Dora Siliya in which she had responded to a Tweet by UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema where he made comparisons between Rwanda and Zambia’s economic priorities.
In his Tweet, Hichilema had stated: “Where there is no vision, the people will be in darkness”. The Tweet was accompanied by a picture comparing the $23M Solar Plant in Rwanda and the 100M Presidential jet in Zambia, reports Koswe’s Nick Phiri in Lusaka.
Zambia’s Information Minister Dora Siliya, immediately responded with a terse Tweet, “In Rwanda, you would not be able to post this without consequences”, implying that Rwanda is a dictatorship which allows no freedom of expression.
The Minister’s tweet response received massive backlash from Zambians on social media and has also angered the Rwandese government as some cheeky Zambians tagged President Paul Kagame of Rwanda.
Zambia’s ambassador to Rwanda is also expected to be summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rwanda for a demarche and a possible slap on the wrists, to express the Rwandese government’s displeasure with the Zambian Information Minister’s tweet.
