A teacher in Samfya has pleaded guilty to defamation of the President. In this case, 27-year-old Enockson Banda is facing four counts of defamation of the President on his Face book Page.

It is alleged that between April 1 and June 30 last year, Banda, with intent to bring the name of the President into ridicule, published the defamatory statements saying President Lungu is a foreigner from Malawi no wander his government is involved in massive corruption. Mr Banda had also accused President Lungu of not caring for ordinary Zambians including vulnerable pupils like the ones he was teaching.
When the matter came up for continuation of trial before magistrate Sylvia Munyinya, Banda pleaded guilty after the court read out the charges to him.

Asked why he issued the defamatory statements against the President, Mr Banda said he was angry because a lot of pupils at his school are sitting on the floor as the government has not bought any desk. “I was angry seeing my pupils sitting on the floor while those in power are enjoying our money I could manage to keep quite seeing my pupils suffering when those in power are misusing our resources to overpriced useless projects. Am ready to go to jail for this…I don’t mind dying in prison for I was speaking for the less privileged in my society”, Banda told the magistrate who was visibly taken by his courage in stating facts in court.

The court then entered a plea of guilty and adjourned that matter to next week Monday 4th March for reading of facts and sentencing where he is expected to be punished heavily as PF carders are also following the case.

Just like President Lungu, Enockson Banda’s homeand is Petauke and he is equally Nsenga by tribe according to facts before the court.
