More testimonies have kept pouring in , after the Ethiopian Airline Crash
THE PILOT’S LAST WORDS TO HIS MOTHER
“I am coming to Nairobi. I have forgotten my phone, but we will talk once I get there..” – these were #Yared_Getachew ‘s last words to his mother. It was their last conversation they had together mother and son before the plane took off and crashed 6 minutes later…
According to his mother, Dr Rayan Shapi, revealed that she last spoke to her son (pilot) right before he started the journey that claimed the lives of 157 people.
The main pilot, Yared Getachew, was born in 1990 from a Kenyan mother, Dr Rayan Shapi, of Mombasa and an Ethiopian father, Dr Getachew Tessema, who lived in spring valley estate, Nairobi. Both parents are dentists in Kenya.
The experienced pilot schooled at Oshual High School in Nairobi, then trained as a pilot with Ethiopian Airlines. According to his mother, Yared Getachew, was so brilliant at school and made his mother and father proud especially when he started flying aeroplanes at a very young age.
The 29-year-old pilot had worked in the aviation industry for more than 10 years and climbed through the corporate ladder to sit among the senior captains. He was promoted to the rank of a senior captain because of his brilliance, intelligence, hardwork, commitment, confidence and experience. He was so passionate about what he was doing. He really loved his job.
According to Ethiopian Airline, the 29-year-old pilot had an excellent flying record. For the time that he has been working with the Ethiopian Airlines he has never been involved in any mishap.
Flying from Addis Ababa to Nairobi was a trip he had done so many times before, and even for his family this was nothing to worry about given that he had flown for more than 8000 hours as he charted a path in aviation.
His family especially his mother and father never expected anything bad could happen to him and the rest of the people he was flying on daily basis. They had so much confidence in him.
Yesterday, the family gathered in Mombasa where his mother’s family resides to hold a send-off prayer for the pilot whose body is yet to be retrieved. The pilot’s father, Dr Getachew Tessema, is busy doing some investigation to find out what caused the accident or plane crash in which his son (pilot) and the rest of the people on board lost their lives..
