UPND Lusaka district youth chairperson Archritius Mwanakayaya says the party finds PF media director Sunday Chanda’s incessant attacks on UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema delusional.
In a statement on Tuesday, Chanda said it was a shame Hichilema spoke ill of Zambia’s economy when the international media had asked him for a comment on the appointment of Dr Bwalya Ng’andu as the new Minister of Finance.
Chanda claimed Hichilema had failed to recognise the positive feedback from the financial market following the appointment.
Mwanakayaya said what Hichilema observed was that the new finance minister had the requisite qualifications, but the problem the country had did not lie in changing the political head at Ministry of Finance but the entire PF government.
“[Hichilema] said Ng’andu Bwalya would not manage to fix the economic problems the PF had always denied existed because he was going to do the bidding of the PF and end up like his predecessor Margaret Mwanakatwe,” he said.
Mwanakayaya said Chanda had time and again taken issue with Hichilema’s principled and educated opinions on national issues.
“We find it unsettling that Mr Chanda, an unprincipled politician who found himself in the Patriotic Front because of his appetite to achieve what he wants [money] more quickly than he would otherwise be likely if he had values and integrity, would attack HH,” he said.
“Noting his campaign of hate and prejudice against Mr Hichilema has received coverage from some media portrayals, Mr Chanda has sought to build his political fortunes by spreading fear and Hichilema phobia. The country may wish to know that Mr Chanda, in 2011, together with his friends in the Movement for Multiparty Democracy calling themselves Young Turks went round the whole of Northern, Luapula and Muchinga provinces to denounce Michael Chilufya Sata, the leader of the party he now claims to be one of the founder members.”
Mwanakayaya said if Chanda could insult the late Sata, it was no surprise that today he has turned his guns against Hichilema.
He said to any upright citizen of Zambia, Chanda was just an unprincipled politician with no firm values and would be among the first people to throw stones at President Edgar Lungu once he was out of office.
“Have the PF no genuine leaders that citizens must slaver over this unprincipled politician and icon of hate? The country knows that the PF pushed for the National Dialogue Forum but realising the strong resistance from the citizenry, Chanda and his fellow unprincipled politicians are jumping on any passing bandwagon shouting ‘no coalition government.’ We want to tell him that the UPND in Lusaka district has taken note of his campaign and we will take him on,” said Mwanakayaya.
