THE UPND has successfully filed in for the Kanabilumbu, Mangango and Chitwa by-elections wards in Western province, respectively, while the ruling party has suffered a massive blow as more than 200 of its Kanabilumbu Ward members have opted to join the UPND.
The PF members have cited poor leadership, hunger, lies, corruption and high poverty levels as some of the reasons for ditching the PF.
The defectors were led by former PF Kanabilumbu Ward Chairperson, Matota Samuel Malambo.
Mr Richard Chingumbe Liwoyo is the UPND’s candidate for Mangango Ward in Mangango constituency and Mr Misheck Mundandwe for Kanabilumbu in the same constituency.
Kanabilumbu Ward has 6 polling stations with about 3, 000 registered voters while Mangango Ward in Mangango constituency, also in Western province has more than 3, 300 registered voters.
The party has also fielded Mr Tauzen Libinga for Chitwa Ward in Kaoma.
The nominations are for the forthcoming local government by elections slated for 30th July, 2019.
And Luampa MP, Makozo Chikote has taken a swipe at the PF government for what he calls “a wastage of man power and resources in the wake of austerity measures (cut on unnecessary Government expenditure) recently announced by government owing to the deployment of a battalion of police officers in relatively peaceful wards.
Mr Chikote said the elections, are a “drain of the country’s meager resources” and the PF are using them as a ploy to wipe opposition from the political scene, a move the international community has blamed.
Meanwhile both MP’s have expressed happiness that the population in the rural areas are aware about corruption and how PF want to manipulate the Constitution to remain in power.
Hon Chikote was accompanied by MP for Mitete Constituency Hon Misheck Mutelo.
