Bahati -14/03/2019

United Party for National Development UPND youths have committed themselves to a peaceful and non violent campaign in the Bahati Parliamentary election slated for April 11th 2019.

And the UPND candidate in the Bahati Election, Jerry Bwalya and his competitor of the Patriotic Front Charles Chalwe have successfully filed in their nominations for the vacant parliamentary seat.

Speaking after the filling in of the nomination papers, UPND National Youth information and publicity secretary Samuel Ngwira vowed to ensure that the poll is free of any violent activities to allow the people of Bahati freely choose their preferred representative.

Mr.Ngwira however said the UPND will not relent to defend itself against any form of provocation in its quest to protect the vote from any possible manipulation and victimization.

“We shall protect the vote and the people of Bahati from any form of victimization and manipulation in as much as we shall remain peaceful to allow the people choose their representative under a conducive environment. In as much as we commit to remain peaceful, we shall not hesitate to defend ourselves against any form of provocation,” he said.

And UPND candidate Jerry Bwalya who successfully filed in his nomination papers at 15:50hrs declared himself ready for the anticipated grueling campaign period and the final election on April 11th, 2019 saying Bahati deserves local and sober leadership that understands its challenges.

Mr.Bwalya said the area has for long been represented by people that have settled in urban towns of Lusaka and Copperbelt who do not understand the challenges and needs of the people resulting into the high levels of under-development and community poverty.

“Our leaders have been coming from Lusaka and Copperbelt towns and do not understand our challenges. Am glad that the UPND has adopted a candidate that is locally based and understands its needs. I know and understand geographical challenges in Bahati. This is what the people deserve. Am thankful to the UPND leadership led by my President Hakainde Hichilema and his deputy GBM for the faith shown in him and I pledge to retain the favor,” he said.

The UPND has also successfully filed in for the vacant Chilyapa local government by-election under Mansa central constituency.
