United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia UPPZ President Charles Chanda has today been released from his prolonged police detention at Lusaka Central Police where he spent 11 days in custody.

Mr. Chanda who is also Director of Brook Cherith Real Estate Agents and Developers was arrested on Monday, 7th October, 2019 together with his daughter and charged with various offenses related to land deals.

But UPPZ Youth President Leo Madalitso Musukwa believes the arrest and susbsequent denial by police to grant Mr. Chanda bond was all politically motivated.

Meanwhile, Former UPPZ Spokesperson, Francis Kope has written to the Human Rights Commission to instigate police’s prolonged detention of Mr, Chanda which he says is a violation of the constitution and human rights.

In a letter dated 16th October, 2019 and addressed to Human Rights Commission Spokesperson Mweelwa Muleya, Mr. Kope in his capacity as a concerned citizen says Mr. Chanda’s right to be heard according to Article 18 was also violated in the 11 days of his incarceration.
