VENDING IN WARDS AT UTH – IT HAS TURNED UTH INTO A MINI MARKET
Today, I spent sometime at UTH visiting friends who are nursing patients at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH), the highest health facility in the Land of Zambia.
What shocked and surprised me was to see the levels of vending going on in wards that I visited.
The vendors were selling various merchandise ranging from toilet tissues, boiled eggs etc to kaya in wards.
I inquired from one patient whether this is a normal practice, the patient explained that this is a daily practice especially in the evenings and nights.
I was shocked and wondered was this an allowable practice now by the Ministry of Health to turn hospitals into vending places?
Another observation during my visit was the number of cockroaches freely moving around wards. Surely, you can’t believe this is the highest teaching hospital and health facility in the Country.
