ARREST THOSE USING CHILDREN IN ILLEGAL MINING ACTIVITIES
MINISTER of Mines and Minerals Development, Hon. Richard Musukwa has requested the Zambia Police to arrest those using children in illegal mining activities on the Copperbelt.
He has since dispatched mine inspectors to the Copperbelt Province to ascertain and verify the extent of the problem and if possible, help bring the culprits using children to book.
Reacting to a video circulating which shows that children are involved in illegal mining activities in Chingola, Mr. Musukwa said the use of child labour in Zambia is outlawed and has since requested the Police to arrest the culprit.
“Government and the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development take strong exception at the revelation shown in the video circulating over illegal mining activities in Chingola”
“We condemn in the strongest terms the illegal use of children in the extraction of the ore materials by suspected known local businessmen.”
“Police should immediately arrest the culprits and a team of mine inspectors have been dispatched to the site.”
