The Millers Association of Zambia says it is not responsible for the hike in the price of the Mealie Meal in the country.
MAZ president Andrew Chintala says the increase is due to market forces at play.
He adds that policy inconsistency on the part of government has greatly affected the growth of the sector.
And the Zambia National Farmers Union says the unwillingness from banks to support maize production has also played a part on the production of the crop.
The duo was speaking at a stakeholders meeting on Maize and the rising prices of mealie meal which is meant to find ways on reducing the escalating prices of the commodity.
On Tuesday President Edgar Lungu warned traders and millers exploiting Zambians through unwarranted hiking of mealie meal prices that government was not going to condone such.
