WHO IS MUTALE NALUMANGO?

Mutale Nalumango was born on 01st January 1955 and she is a teacher by profession. She first became a Member of Parliament in 2001 under the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) in Kaputa Constituency, Northern Province.

She also served as Minister of Education as well as Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services.

Ms. Nalumango was re-elected as MP in 2006 under the MMD and went on to becomes Zambia’s first female deputy speaker of the National Assembly in 2006 after going through unchallenged for the position.

Following the defeat of MMD in 2011 by the Patriotic Front, Nalumango took some time off politics before she became active again in 2013 when she joined the United Party for National Development (UPND).

She was first made UPND deputy president in 2019 after being elevated from the position of national chairperson. Following the convention of the UPND, Hakainde Hichilema maintained Nalumango as his vice President.

She joins Democratic Party vice President Judith Kabemba as well as PF’s Nkandu Luo who was announced on Monday by President Lungu as his running mate in the August polls.
