A WITNESS has testified in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court that the seditious document published in the New Zambia Bulletin and Record magazine was downloaded from the Zambian Watchdog website.
This was in a case in which UPND lawyer Martha Mushipe has been charged for possession of seditious material.
The document in question was entitled ‘Strategy of domination -PF against opposition UPND 2015 – 2016 and beyond’, which allegedly involved the use of violence against the opposition.
Testifying in the case before Magistrate Felix Kaoma yesterday, Charles Mafa 37, an investigative journalist at BBC Media Action, told the court that on April 26, 2016, he was summoned for questioning to find the source of the document that was allegedly written by then Minister of Justice Dr. Ngosa Simbyakula two unknown persons.
He said from July to September of 2015, after multiple letters written to Dr.Simbyakula, his request for an interview was turned down.
“I physically visited his office where I found him and he agreed to give an interview to find out if he was the author of the document,” he said.
He said Dr. Simbyakula was not aware of the seditious document and the other two unknown persons.
The matter has been adjourned to August 1 and 8, 2018 for continuation of trial.
Police charged Ms Mushipe in connection with a document that was found in her office during a search earlier in 2016 when her offices in Millennium Village were sealed off.
