The Zambia Tourism Agency will not host both the Zambia Travel Expo Zatex and the Livingstone International Cultural and Arts Festival this year because of inadequate funding towards the two tourism promotion events.
The two events are annual cultural tourism festivals under the initiative of the Zambia Tourism Agency whose objectives is to boost the tourism potential in the region.
Confirming the development to Phoenix News in an interview, Agency chief executive officer Felix Chaila says the two events were scheduled to be held between 9th and 11th May 2019 but lack of funding has forced the agency to delay the hosting of the events which are Zambia’s premier travel and tourism expo.
A check by Phoenix FM on the website of the Zambia Tourism Agency, a notice read as follows;
Zambia Tourism Agency wishes to advise that the Zambia Travel Expo (ZATEX) dates (2nd to 4th May 2019) have been affected by the new dates for the Africa’s Travel Indaba 2019 in South Africa which were brought forward in view of the upcoming national elections in their country.
The new dates for Africa’s Travel Indaba clashes with the ZATEX 2019 previous dates, which has resulted in the need to shift the dates for Zambia’s premier travel and tourism expo.
In view of the above and after a careful review of the dates of other events that are likely to affect the ZATEX. The Zambia Tourism Agency has come up with new dates: 9th to 11th May 2019. This of course also affects pre-expo tours and means there will only be post hosted-buyers tours.
