Zambia national soccer team battled to a goalless draw against Botswana in the African Nations Championship qualifier second round first leg match played at the Francistown Arena on Friday night.
It was a match in which the Chipolopolo only registered one short on target which came in the second half.
Coach Aggrey Chiyangi named a squad similar to the one that beat the Tswanas in the final of the Cosafa Cup last month. The only changes to the team covered for the absent Tandi Mwape, Austin Muwowo and Lazarous Kambole who have trekked out of the country making them ineligible for selection.
Simon Silwimba, Kelvin Kampamba and Chitiya Mususu were given starting berths instead.
The Chipolopolo struggled to stamp their authority especially in first half where they failed to make any short on target.
The coach’s game-plan was also dealt a blow when midfielder Jack Chirwa was forced out due to an injury for Larry Bwalya as early as the 15th minute.
The Chipolopolo rallied in the second half for the important away goal but they were up against a well organized Zebra’s defense and looked happy to walk away with an away draw.
The two teams meet next week on Saturday 3rd August at the Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
