STATE SAYS KAMBWILI AND THREE OTHERS WERE WRONGLY ACUITTED AS DPP APPEALS.
The Director of Public Prosecutions DPP has appealed against the acquittal of Patriotic Front PF Chishimba Kambwili.
Kambwili, his son Mwamba and two Zambia Revenue Authority workers were facing 39 counts of of corruption.
Mr. Kambwili and the 3 others were on the 9th of September 2021 acquitted of all the 39 counts.
But the DPP has appealed against this acquittal in the Lusaka High Court saying the Magistrate Court erred at law by acquiting the four given the weight of of Evidence placed on record.
Sources within the legal fraternity have however hinted that Mr. Kambwili’s acquittal was engineered by the PF while in government.
Out of the 39 counts, the state through the DPP has only appealed against 34(34) counts.
